Two things you have to keep in mind . one ,because of age changes and second thing your tooth supporting structure is weak and is not able to hold the teeth in position to tongue and lip pressure. So the tooth moves according to external pressure.first you have to go the dentist and check whether your supporting structures are good ,and if the periodontium (supporting structure) is weak then you go for gum therapy and follow the oral hygiene instruction .if you want to close the gap you can go for braces treatment or close the gap by cosmetic filling.

Unlike other dental treatment orthodontic treatment is not a single day treatment,it takes more than a year to complete it,every month you have to come for treatment and the doctor and patient has to appreciate the changes.the residential orthodontist who decide about the treatment cost and you can directly share your expectation with him who is doing treatment for you.the cost benefit ratio is good(low) .second thing if you had any breakages or inconvenience you can come at any time and directly get corrected.in other words if you are buying a house you can directly talk to the owner about your budget and expectation and I think you got the point.
